Introduction to CREED

Centre for Rural Education and Economic Development- CREED is a non-governmental, non-partisan, non-political and non-religious organization based at Chidambaram, Cuddalore District. Dr.V.Nadanasabapathy, Founder of  Centre for Rural Education and Economic Development –CREED. CREED NGO is registered under Indian Trust Act 1882 on 3.11.1987 and the Registration Number is 17/87. Subsequently, ‘CREED’ was promptly registered under the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act, 1976 of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India [Permanent FCRA Registration number – 076010113, valid upto 30.10.2021]. The Income Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance, Government of India had exempted ‘CREED’ under 80G of the Income Tax Act, 1961 and 12 A. CREED is registered under NGO DARPAN Portal and the unique ID number is TN/2017/0170838.

The prime purpose of the organization is to extend a helping hand to the poor, marginalized, disadvantaged and socially-excluded segments of the society through implementing welfare oriented and developmental programs so that they may be able to receive and taste the fruits of these programs, the things that were denied to them and kept beyond their reach.

After two decades of sustained field extensions with the focus on a multi-sector-based approach towards solving social problems and bringing relief and rehabilitation to victims of natural disasters, now it has been recognized as a donor assisted government-supported, people-based premier social service organization in its area of operations in five districts of the state. In recognition of its outstanding services towards the welfare of disabled, the Government of Tamil Nadu nominated Centre for Rural Education and Economic Development CREED for the “Best Institution Award in 2002. Apart from this, in recognition of its outstanding services rendered towards the welfare of Children, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India has conferred “Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award” on its Secretary Dr.V. Nadanasabapathy in the year 2010. The Prestigious Rani Lady Meyyammai Achi of Chettinad 108th Birthday Commemoration Award  of Rs.2,00,000/- & Citation  for the year 2012 is presented by Hon’ble Justice Tmt. S. Vimala, Judge, High Court of Madras. Awarded prestigious award of Mahindra and Mahindra named National level Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samman (2019) given by the the Chief Executive of ‘Niti Ayog’, Government of India for the recognition to KVK for its purposeful and noteworthy contribution to the field of agriculture, having a positive impact on the farming communities.

Vision:

We envisage the establishment of an economically emancipated, educationally awakened, enduringly eco-friendly and enlightened egalitarian society empowered with essential and efficient technology and methodology to cope with the foreseeable challenges of the modern world and the unforeseen havocs of natural disasters.

Mission:

Our mission is to empower the target communities to conserve and protect their environment, to build and develop their own infrastructural facilities according to their requirement, to solve their problems and manage all issues on their own and within themselves, to control the means and methods of their overall development and destiny through assertion of their socio-political and economical rights and to effectively use their organizational and collective power to enjoy good Governance, to revive and resurrect from any disasters.

Objectives:

  1. To reduce the menace of poverty among the target community through rural development strategies and build appropriate infrastructural facilities for them
  2. To make potable drinking water availability through collective action and eradicate waterborne diseases through such ways and means
  3. To create comprehensive water and sanitation facilities for a health life
  4. To prevent/control HIV/AIDS infections through awareness and preventive intervention/action
  5. To train and capacitate the target people to increase their income earning capacity by facilitating the implementation of income generation projects
  6. To rehabilitate persons with disabilities through capacity building, development projects and empowerment activities towards socio-economic empowerment
  7. To bring relief to the victims of natural calamities and help them to return to normal life through sustainable rehabilitation
  8. To seek alternatives for the children under child labour situation and assist their overall development
  9. To empower marginalized and disadvantaged women through socio-economic and cultural interventions and facilitate the implementation of development programs, capacity building etc.
  10. To facilitate the formation and strengthening of community-based micro-finance institution
  11. To build water conservation structures through watershed development programs
  12. To increase the green cover to the geographical region through plantation of trees and medicinal plants.
  13. Addressing critical issues such as Climate Change, Agricultural Development, Transfer of Science and Technology amongst the resource poor small and marginal farmers through action research and extension services

Mandates Of KVK:

  • Conducting on-farm testing to identify the location specific agricultural technologies under various farming systems

  • Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields

  • Organizing need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement and demonstration, and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development

  • Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes

  • Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming community

  • Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields
